Vertigo (1958). Two panels from the final Tower Scene and the real death of Madeleine. One of the most disturbing endings in a commercial movie at the time, though film noir was well underway with endings influcened by existentialist thought such as the french film Wages of Fear. But that was France, not Hollywood. The rich black and white art by Henry Bumstead captures the mood and emotional violence of the moment.
